UNAMS History
The Ugandan North American Medical Society (UNAMS) was formed in 1998. The Society is registered as a non-profit charity organization in the state of Georgia. UNAMS has applied for tax-exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the United States revenue code.
The Society’s day-to-day activities are overseen by a seven-person Management Board, consisting of the President, Secretary, Treasurer and four Board members. The Management Board is elected to four year terms by all members in good standing who are physically present to cast their vote. At least one of the board members must be from Canada. Elections are held every four years. Our next elections will be held at the 9th Annual UNAMS Scientific Conference in spring of 2014.
UNAMS holds an Annual Scientific Conference in April, and has done so since 2006. Beginning in 2007, UNAMS sponsors an Annual Medical Mission to Uganda during the summer, where members and well-wishers spend anywhere from one to four weeks in Uganda, screening, treating and operating on patients at no cost to the recipients of the treatment.
UNAMS is a non-profit, charitable organization. We welcome donations. You can donate on-line by clicking (here) or by mailing your check or money order, payable to UNAMS to the following address:
